We’re pleased to present THE TESLA PROJECT, an all-day extravaganza dedicated to celebrating the genius of Nikola Tesla, a visionary scientist and engineer whose electrical inventions transformed the world. His most famous inventions include: AC power, the induction motor, fluorescent lighting, and radio.

THE TESLA PROJECT is for all ages and open to the public and the proceeds benefit GirlStartRSVP and invite your friends HERE. 

This year’s Tesla Project features…

  • a Tesla-inspired art show, juried by Art.Science.Gallery. and hosted at Invenio
  • a collaborative portrait project of Nikola Tesla at Art.Science.Gallery.
  • Robots! The LASA Robotics Team (Liberal Arts and Science Academy of Austin) and The Lady Cans Robotics Team of The Girl Scouts of Central Texas, will show off their stuff in Big Medium‘s gallery at Canopy!
  • Maker Craig Newswanger will talk about how to make a Tesla Coil, as seen here in his Make Magazine article
  • live screen printing by CogDut. We’ll have Tesla t-shirt designs for you to choose from by Twin Villain. You’ll be able to pick out a shirt and a screen, and it’ll be screen-printed as you wait!
  • film screenings throughout the day
  • Tesla Roadsters will be on display! — zero-emissions cars that can go from 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds
  • a Tesla-era costume contest with cash prizes, judged by Big Medium!
  • Austin Creative Reuse with a creation station at WPA Studio!
  • Spin Art courtesy of Jerry’s Artarama!
  • AustinWhiteDove will have a Q&A and a release (did we mention Tesla had a thing for pigeons!?)
  • live music in the evening, including BLUESQUEEZEBOX, Jean CaffeineOctant, and The Future of Air Travel (Blair Bovbjerb on theremin)!
  • a silent auction featuring laser cut goodies from MAKEatx and toys by Snap Circuits and Goldie Blox–perfect for inspiring the next generation of engineers.
  • plenty of cold food and drink from Austin Eastciders, Nile Valley tea, and 512 SNO to keep you cool and hydrated! We have awesome color-changing commemorative Telsa Project cups for the drinks!
